Weiqiang Cheng is responsible for product planning and architecture design of metro area networks at the China Mobile Research Institute. He is the chief architect of SPTN (Software-defined Packet Transport Networks), which will be the main metro area network solution for both wireless backhaul and wired services in China Mobile. Since he joined China Mobile in 2011, he has been involved in R&D of transmission technologies and products such as PTN, microwave, time synchronization and OTN. From 2006 to 2011, he worked as senior system engineer for backhaul solutions at Nortel and Ericsson. Weiqiang holds both a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in Communication Engineering from the Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications.
