Several serendipitous factors combined to give Interop 2011 in Las Vegas a huge buzz about OpenFlow, Software-Defined Networking, and the Open Networking Foundation. 13,000 attendees and 350 vendors demonstrated continued growth in Interop, and the 30′ x 40′ InteropNet OpenFlow® Lab booth attracted crowds most all the time. At least 16 vendors showed *interoperable* OpenFlow® implementations. There were daily OpenFlow® tutorials in the classroom on the show floor (70 seats and standing room only), a panel on the Real Next Generation Network in which three of the four panelists were associated with ONF, and ONF’s own information session. I especially enjoyed Jim Duffy’s statement in Computerworld that “Interop 2011 could have been called the OpenFlow® Show.”
