ONF to showcase real-world SDN use cases from member companies and their customers in four themes at the Layer123 SDN and OpenFlow® World Congress.
As many of you know, ONF is producing the SDN Solutions Showcase at the SDN and OpenFlow® World Congress, October 14 – 17, 2014, co-hosted by ONF and Layer123. The showcase not only offers our member companies an opportunity to highlight their SDN solutions, but also show them demonstrating real applications with operators and partners. You can read more about the showcase from our press release here. For this blog post, we thought we would lift the curtain a bit and give you a behind-the-scenes look at what will be demonstrated within each theme of the showcase. Note that every demo will include at least two vendors and one operator.
The Data Center SDN theme will feature nine member companies with multiple solutions that can be deployed to resolve issues confronting data center managers. You’ll see examples of data centers that have migrated from legacy networks to native SDN or hybrid networks, dynamic multiple tenancy solutions combining virtual and physical networking, and secure data centers that offload very complex networking tasks under OpenFlow® control.
For the Carrier SDN and WAN Technologies theme, eight member companies will demonstrate how global telecom carriers are benefiting from SDN implementation with easier deployment, greater flexibility, improved efficiency, and greater economies of scale. Global telco operators will show how they have implemented SDN into their networks, including L1 – L7 switching; end-to-end orchestration of optical network connectivity services from data centers across the WAN to enterprises; IPv6 transition technologies , showing the value and flexibility of open Northbound APIs; among other carrier-grade use cases.
The Campus SDN theme will highlight the ways that innovative companies are solving issues like device complexity; network, Wi-Fi, and security management; and other complexity reducers. Four member companies will demonstrate campus SDN use cases including SDN Wi-Fi solutions, cloud-management solutions for remote campus administration, and campus threat protection.
Lastly, the Testing and Validation area will feature testing services that SDN companies and customers around the world are already employing to validate their networks. This theme will show five member companies testing OpenFlow® conformance and performance for various controller platforms demonstrating real world systems running applications for security, deep packet inspection, web services, and gateway functions.
Now that the themes and participating companies are set, it is almost time for lights, camera, and action. We hope to see you all in Düsseldorf to show you real world applications of SDN!
