TIM is pleased to share that it has increased its leadership in ONF’s VOLTHA community by becoming an active contributor to help improve the flexibility of the VOLTHA open software stack for residential video and data services over Fiber to the Home (FTTH).
TIM has deployed in its Turin Innovation Labs, a new FTTH PoC based on disaggregated Optical Line Terminal (OLT) VOLTHA open software stack that can be integrated in the future Edge access nodes of its network. For the PoC, VOLTHA v2.9 release is deployed which is based on PPPoE IA application and Transparent OLT VLAN forwarding.
According to Daniele Franceschini, Head of TIM Innovation, “disaggregation of network devices is a technological enabler that TIM is contributing to develop not only for total cost of ownership optimization but even more to increase the flexibility in the development of new digital service for our customers. The openness of hardware and software allow us to realize solutions that can be flexibly installed in the network according to different architecture requirements. Within this context, VOLTHA represents for TIM a very interesting component to innovate in our fixed access networks. We are especially thankful to the ONF for its help in supporting the evolution of TIM’s service model.”
