Executive Director Dan Pitt to Spread the Message of Software-Defined Networking to New Regions
Miami, Fl., July 25, 2012 - The Open Networking Foundation (ONF), a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting Software-Defined Networking (SDN), is expanding its presence to drive awareness of SDN and OpenFlow® into Latin America.
This week, Executive Director Dan Pitt will offer a fresh perspective on OpenFlow® and will share thoughts on the implementation of SDN in commercial networks and datacenters to press and analysts from this expanding region.
The OpenFlow® standard provides the fundamental foundation for SDN and enables networks to evolve by giving a remote, directly-programmable controller the power to modify the behavior of network devices through a well-defined forwarding instruction set. Since its inception, ONF has worked with the Foundation’s member companies worldwide to make OpenFlow-based SDN the new norm for networks.
“As datacenters continue to grow in size and the number of applications they support, a new implementation is required in order to scale and fully utilize every resource in the datacenter,” said Alan Weckel, Senior Director with the Dell’Oro Group. “We believe that most of SDN is a natural evolution in how datacenters are built and controlled in order to support scalable datacenters of the future. Dell’Oro Group forecasts the SDN market will grow from less than $200 M in 2011 to over $2 B in 2016.”
At this year’s NetEvents Americas, to be held July 25-26, 2012 in Miami, Pitt will introduce ONF and the origins of OpenFlow® and SDN, describing how this disruptive technology will release the shackles of proprietary networking environments and is on track to become the biggest revolution in networking in a generation. Through a series of use cases of commercial deployments, Pitt will show how OpenFlow® based-SDN can empower users in Latin America, and will share thoughts on the growth and need for SDN.
“Companies in Latin America are anxious to hear about new networking capabilities and options that OpenFlow-based SDN provides,” said Dan Pitt, executive director of ONF. “ONF is offering a truly standard approach to the fast-evolving world of SDN. We look forward to discussing SDN and its ability to centralize control of traffic routing, becoming the first reliable solution to the problems of data border control.”
