Software Leadership Council Members to Oversee ONF’s Sponsorship and Development of Open SDN Solutions
PALO ALTO, Calif., February 18, 2015 – The Open Networking Foundation (ONF), a non-profit organization dedicated to accelerating the adoption of open Software-Defined Networking (SDN), announced the launch of its new Open Source Software community and code repository, OpenSourceSDN.org. This new site will be a resource for those looking to commercially deploy open SDN solutions, free from vendor lock-in.
“The launch of OpenSourceSDN.org further underscores our commitment to the ongoing commercialization of open source software worldwide,” said Dan Pitt, executive director of the Open Networking Foundation. “We see open source software as a key route to developing de facto standards and fostering multi-vendor interoperability, both of which are top priorities for ONF. Our work in open source software development will continue to be complementary to both our own specifications work and the open source work done by other organizations and we look forward to continued collaboration.”
To assist in the governance of the website, ONF has also established the Software Leadership Council (SLC), a group of industry luminaries with experience in open source software, software development, and community development. The SLC is charged with guiding ONF’s open source software programs and online community development. Current members of the SLC include:
- Jono Bacon, XPRIZE Foundation
- Stuart Bailey, Infoblox (Chair)
- Jasson Casey, Flowgrammable
- Saurav Das, ONF
- Carl Moberg, Cisco Systems
- Ben Pfaff, VMware
- Rob Sherwood, Big Switch Networks (Vice Chair)
- Dan Talayco, Self-Referential Software
“The new Software Leadership Council and Open Source Software community are important next steps for the growth of open SDN,” said Stuart Bailey, founder and chief technology officer of Infoblox and chair of the Software Leadership Council. “I look forward to working with the other SLC members to develop new ONF programs, events, and activities that will drive the creation and adoption of open source software. We are building on the work done by ONF in the last two years – beginning with the OpenFlow® Driver competition, followed by ONF SampleTap and the Segment Routing project SPRING-OPEN.”
The announcement of OpenSourceSDN.org follows the appointment of Saurav Das as principal system architect, overseeing the organization’s overall software efforts in conjunction with the SLC. ONF is also seeking a Community Manager to work alongside the SLC in the management and governance of the repository. The position is expected to be filled by the second quarter of this year.
